Patience Wheatcroft has shown that she is an alien. To London. And to the idea of accountability.
Contrary to the image that she is involved in promoting for herself and for Boris Johnson, her ‘boss’. I note for the record and as evidence the point she is making so far about not being paid [and also in not being interested in being paid] for her job at Boris Johnson's Onion!
It is like being back in the era of John Major and dealing with or trying to deal with the utter, total, complete ignorance of the majority of his cabinet. Typified by two in context. One Peter Lilley, who defied his notoriety as one of Major’s bastards and behaved like he was officially in an officially Tory Government but he believed in the bankrupt ‘ideals and values’ that the Neil Kinnock Party ‘gloried in and exhibited’.
The other was Gillian Shepherd. The so-called Education Secretary.
She was the nearest example in John Major’s UK administration that resembled the corrupt, the immoral and the bankrupt policies exhibited by Ken Livingstone at the Ghastly Livingstone Confection [the GLC] or the Greedy Lying Conurbation during the 3rd, the 4th, the 5th and the 6th year of the decade of the 1980s when Thatcher was allegedly dismantling the GLC.
‘Value for money’ , the phrase that Wheatcroft kept uttering as she spoke to Tim Donovan on the BBC TV programme ‘the Politics Show’ [London segment, broadcast on Sunday 8 June 2008] is total, utter and complete rubbish if it is the main ‘concept’ that defines and determines conduct of the holders of public office as far as the money available to the operation of the ‘mayor’ in the name of London.
And Tim Donavan let himself down by not going over the key failures of the Lyingstill Livingstone's maladministration. For without that checklist - although even the Donovan list was far from complete when articulated in the months before 1 May 2008 - the people who watched that edition on 8 June 2008 would not know what to expect.
And the less said about John Biggs the better!
Strangely, there is nothing to John Biggs. Politically. Ethically. Democratically. Not as far as his being in the political office is anything to go by.

Boris Johnson, the 'successor' to Ken Livingstone in the name of London, will FAIL as Livingstone if Johnson does not show he is NOT another liar
How could Johnson possibly unravel? And do so faster than his 'advisers' and himself, may think?
This may happen by Johnson not realising - and by his not behaving in accordance with that unimplemented realisation - that his 'team' as he has appointed so far, does not constitute a democratic, ethical, accountable improvement at all on what Ken Livingstone had created....
I shall show how Boris Johnson has got things wrong so far . I have already said that Johnson is guilty of a major mistake in attacking the Scottish people.
As I have said on hundreds of occasions before, it is not acceptable for anyone doing 'political representation' in the name of the people of London to attack another people. Especially not the Scottish people., In context. I shall return to the Johnson wrong over Scotland in a late part.

TOLD YOU SO! That the peddlers of the CROSSRAIL scam do not have reason on their said. They have racism on their side! Time after time they keep showing desperation by attacking Scotland and the Scottish people for the lack of substance in the London CRASSrail scam.. They did it in the months leading up to Gordon Brown taking up official tenancy at No 10 Downing Street London SW1... So what do they do? they resort back to stoking up hatred and now an even more open anti-Scottish almost racist propaganda....... They are saying incredible things.. They are lying... And they are confirming that the London Crossrail is NOT about solving the transport needs of London... They are saying Crossrail is a big stick with which to beat up the Scottish people politically. That in other words, Crossrail is NOT about solving London’s transport needs...Just as the racist Matthew Parris [who claims to have written some of Margaret Thatcher’s poisonously prejudiced speeches and who is a self-confessed liar and fabricator] urged Tony Blair to PUNISH the ‘Brick Lane’ area by DIGGING the Crossrail hole in the East End community’s heart, in the immediate aftermath of the people of Bethnal Green and Bow electorally ousting Blair’s multifariously promoted ‘Babe’ and Crossrail hole-plot-peddler Oona King at the May 2005 general elections .....[since rehabilitated a dozen times in all sorts of mysterious ‘careers’ ‘ guises’ and ways, with her current location being in the political kitchen of Gordon Brown at No 10 Downing Street]........ .... BORIS Johnson sparked an angry cross-border row last night by claiming Londoners resent "forking out for things in Scotland".
The newly elected London Mayor – who is notorious for his controversial outbursts – added that Scottish politicians, including Gordon Brown, were treating the country in an "inequitable" way.
Johnson's remarks reopened the long and bitter argument about whether Scotland is subsidised by the rest of the UK.
Labour and Tory politicians have questioned whether an independent Scotland would have the cash to go it alone, while Nationalists have insisted that Scottish oil is keeping the UK afloat and would be enough to sustain an independent Scotland.
In a newspaper interview yesterday, Johnson said of residents of London and the south-east: "They're forking out for things in Scotland and you've got Scottish MPs, the Prime Minister and Chancellor, who are treating the country in an inequitable way."
But Angus Robertson, SNP Westminster leader, said: "When Boris Johnson gets up in the morning, he should thank his lucky stars that Scottish oil revenues are keeping the London Treasury afloat. And at bedtime, he should express his gratitude to the rest of the country for the Lottery good causes money being diverted to fund the London Olympics.
"Now that Boris is elected, it's time for him to get real. Public spending per head is higher in London than in Scotland. Even his predecessor, Ken Livingstone, eventually realised the error of his ways and accepted that Scotland subsidises the UK exchequer. Educating Boris in financial reality might prove more difficult."
Lib Dem MSP Robert Brown said: "I hope for the sake of his readers that Mayor Johnson's newspaper column is more accurate than this interview. He should know better than recycling Ken Livingstone's dodgy claims."
A Scottish Labour spokesman said: "Obviously Boris's old habit of insulting people across the UK has not left him. He is talking nonsense and he should apologise for his ridiculous remarks."
No one was available for comment from the Scottish Tories.
A spokesman for Johnson claimed that the remarks should not be seen as an attack on the Scots.
He said: "Boris Johnson is keen to keep his manifesto commitment to the people of London to ensure that they will not be short-changed. He is concerned that the Chancellor and the Prime Minister might hold back on funding the upgrade of the Underground and significant infrastructure projects such as Crossrail. He understands that if that were to happen, many people in London might feel resentful. Boris Johnson has only warmth and admiration for the people of Scotland."
Johnson defeated Labour London Mayor Ken Livingstone last month, despite the Tory being initially written off as a gaffe-prone figure of fun by many pundits.

BORIS Johnson sparked an angry cross-border row last night by claiming Londoners resent "forking out for things in Scotland".
The newly elected London Mayor – who is notorious for his controversial outbursts – added that Scottish politicians, including Gordon Brown, were treating the country in an "inequitable" way.
Johnson's remarks reopened the long and bitter argument about whether Scotland is subsidised by the rest of the UK.
Labour and Tory politicians have questioned whether an independent Scotland would have the cash to go it alone, while Nationalists have insisted that Scottish oil is keeping the UK afloat and would be enough to sustain an independent Scotland.
In a newspaper interview yesterday, Johnson said of residents of London and the south-east: "They're forking out for things in Scotland and you've got Scottish MPs, the Prime Minister and Chancellor, who are treating the country in an inequitable way."
But Angus Robertson, SNP Westminster leader, said: "When Boris Johnson gets up in the morning, he should thank his lucky stars that Scottish oil revenues are keeping the London Treasury afloat. And at bedtime, he should express his gratitude to the rest of the country for the Lottery good causes money being diverted to fund the London Olympics.
"Now that Boris is elected, it's time for him to get real. Public spending per head is higher in London than in Scotland. Even his predecessor, Ken Livingstone, eventually realised the error of his ways and accepted that Scotland subsidises the UK exchequer. Educating Boris in financial reality might prove more difficult."
Lib Dem MSP Robert Brown said: "I hope for the sake of his readers that Mayor Johnson's newspaper column is more accurate than this interview. He should know better than recycling Ken Livingstone's dodgy claims."
A Scottish Labour spokesman said: "Obviously Boris's old habit of insulting people across the UK has not left him. He is talking nonsense and he should apologise for his ridiculous remarks."
No one was available for comment from the Scottish Tories.
A spokesman for Johnson claimed that the remarks should not be seen as an attack on the Scots.
He said: "Boris Johnson is keen to keep his manifesto commitment to the people of London to ensure that they will not be short-changed. He is concerned that the Chancellor and the Prime Minister might hold back on funding the upgrade of the Underground and significant infrastructure projects such as Crossrail. He understands that if that were to happen, many people in London might feel resentful. Boris Johnson has only warmth and admiration for the people of Scotland."
Johnson defeated Labour London Mayor Ken Livingstone last month, despite the Tory being initially written off as a gaffe-prone figure of fun by many pundits.

So that’s all right then, isn’t it!
Because the Tory giving the certificate is George Osborne, the equivalent for the Tories to what Gordon Brown was for the Blaired party.
There are a few things wrong with this certificate.
Osborne is not himself ‘more open’ than anybody else. In fact, when the ‘media spotlight’ is placed on him, which will happen sometime in the future [and perhaps even sooner than Osborne may feel it may come], he will be puffed out…
But where will that lead ‘us’, the ordinary people in Britain who wait for years for the miscreants in parliament to be exposed, caught out…
Not far by the looks of things. Why? Because the ‘spotlight’ as featured on the BBC 2 slot ‘NEWSNIGHT’ last night [Friday 6 June 2008] around the nanny-money-mini-scandal of Caroline Spelman, is unlikely to be taken to the ethical conclusion. BY either main party. Or indeed by the so-called third ‘main’ party, as measured by the numerical presence in the UK House of Commons.
For all the main parties are operated by sleaze. They are unethical. As they are unaccountable.
It is a democratic prison that the UK Parliament is… It is full of images and symbols, all of which are now way past the sell-by dates… We have reached a morass… And there is no sign that any alternative is on the horizon.
This became clear when Emily Maitlis, fronting the 'NEWSNIGHT' [BBC2] slot for the Friday evening, continued her ritualistic questioning after doing the ritualistic, vapid talking to Michael Crick [who seems to be returning to reporting after a long period in internal BBC careeristic diversion and attempts and retraining] turned to Alistair Graham. Graham was the so-called standards man not long ago.
And he did his own ritual recommending of what is to be done… He was most concerned about the reputation of Parliament being damaged….
That was the clearest sign if any were needed as to how backward the ‘standards’ ‘watchdog’ thing is… And why it cannot be relied on to uphold ethics and accountability…
The Caroline Spelman 'money-nanny'-mini-scandal broke in news terms on the day that John Major had been featured in the Times as being concerned about falling standards and in particular about the Gordon Brown assault on civil liberties….
Bu the time he was verbally cuddled by Evan davis on the Today programme this morning , Major was already in a mode of defensive retreat. Especially when Evan Davis menacingly asked him to opine on the location, historically, of Gordon Brown in the scales of misery…. Major would not countenance any attempt at being used as a measure of misery… Even he thought Gordon Brown’s position today was worse than anything that might have happened to him [Major]…. He rushed out the battered image of good old Anthony Eden, the perennial sick bag of British misery measurement….
This shows that there is no owning up to any responsibility, any sense of responsibility at all…. Not a good example, was he, that bloke from ‘Brixton [of fantasy]’ John Major?
He was as daft and useless at backing the real accountability team on Saturday 7 June 2008 as he had been in 1995 [the year they talked about when Major had been going through his Gordon Brown period…..!]
History and language are to be put on a backward trip... Just like Major had spun the back to basic scam that ended in total social humiliation for him...
We have to travel back to Anthony Eden and begin to appreciate just how bad the image and the reality of Britain was….

It has been a day loaded with irony!
I say this because the day’s print edition of the Murdoched Times leads with the comments from John Major about the tottering regime apparently fronted by Gordon Brown...... The idea behind putting that Major Major spin and spiel on the front page of the Murdoched Times [Friday 6 June 2008
] was to maximise the pressure on Gordon Brown.
Any pressure linkable with John Major playing the moral high ground was going to be quote tenuous... The fact that the Murdoched Times ‘editor’ [or may be Murdoch himself] contrived to bring back John Major shows that they must have thought that Gordon Brown could be ‘persuaded’ to surrender. Sooner than is normally expected of him.
yet look! Will the bastards ever go away?
Wherever John major seems to appear politically apolitical, with an ever so slight hint of his doing his old party a favour, some bastard or other appear even more determined than ever to spoil it for Major...
This time it is Chichester...

He can start to lose the baggage of fabrication, lying [about his adultery] and conspiracy [for his chum the convicted fraudster Darius Guppy] by doing something genuinely moral and ethical.
By telling the truth and by behaving as if he is not engaged in setting up a little corrupt careerists empire of his own....
If he can rise above the sea of temptation that ****** Hall [that Blair had built] holds, he can still outlive Cameron......
What is even more important: He can begin the overdue task of delivering a role model of a public post holder that the people of this Metropolis so badly need and want.
Johnson can start by stopping the Crossrail hole plot peddling liars...
He can begin that by telling Crossrail hole agenda peddler Tom Harris that Harris is as ignorant about transport as he is contemptuous of democracy, accountability and constitutionality....
Johnson can say that he himself has not seen or heard any substantial evidence in support of Crossrail. He can say that Crossrail does not equal meeting the transport needs of London. He can say that even Gordon Brown’s own chosen expert. Rod Eddington’ who ‘advised’ Brown on the future of railways transport in the UK did not endorse Crossrail. Johnson cans ay that this is the view of the USA business news outfit Forbes... And that even the UK Channel 4 News reported in October 2007 that Rod Eddington had advised AGAINST Crossrail....
It is about time that Johnson called Ken Livingstone's Crossrail bluff and exposed it as another Confidence trick.....being asserted by Livingstone via Harris and Norris from beyond the mayoral career-grave....

ANTHRAX could be released into Smithfield Market if a 14th century “plague pit” is disrupted during the Crossrail development.
A House of Lords select committee, scrutinising the Crossrail Bill, has revealed that Charterhouse Outer Cemetery has a “medium to high risk” of being contaminated with the deadly bacteria.
The £16 billion Crossrail development – linking east and west London via an underground, high-speed railway – includes plans for a new station in Charterhouse Square, Clerkenwell.
Crossrail admits its giant tunnel-boring machines could smash through an ancient burial ground, where thousands of black death victims were buried in the 14th century.
A report to the select committee stated: “The Charterhouse Outer Cemetery site constitutes a medium or high risk of contamination. An investigation into whether anthrax spores are on the site is in the course of being commissioned.”
Anthrax has been used in biological weapons. It can lie dormant in spore form for centuries, but if disturbed it can spread through the air.
Although anthrax can be deadly if inhaled by humans, it commonly infects livestock, especially pigs.
Smithfield Market Tenants’ Association has told the committee it fears daily deliveries of boxed meat and carcases could be contaminated during the Crossrail development.
It warns that strict inspections, carried out weekly under European law, could result in huge fines for infected meat.
Traders’ leader Greg Lawrence said: “Our main concern is contamination of our meat from the digging and the roadworks. I haven’t heard anything about anthrax but we will be looking into it.”
The Crossrail project is expected to be finished by 2017.
A spokesman for Crossrail said it was aware of the Charterhouse Outer Cemetery and was satisfied that, if anthrax was found, “it would be appropriately dealt with”.
He said: “The outer cemetery of Charterhouse was a 14th century black death burial ground. The southern boundary of the Charterhouse precinct and possibly the cemetery lay further south. If the cemetery does extend this far it would fall within the Crossrail site.”

There is NO evidence that CRASSly conceived Crossrail hole plot is a response to ordinary public need or demand.... This is why BOTH Houses in Parliament, the Big Business lobby has been active to PREVENT members of the public and the core communities affected by the scam, from giving evidence in Parliament showing that CROSSRAIL is irrelevant, diversuonary, unafforcable, unsustainable, damaging, wasteful and obsolete.......

CRASS talk by Tom Harris is grotesquely untrue!
It is not true to imply, which is what Tom Harris is doing [see the piece below], that Boris Johnson did not support Crossrail.
For unlike, say a single-MP ‘party’ as the case was with George Galloway in July 2005 when the ‘Crossrail Bill’ was processed at ‘Second Reading’ [19 July 2005], the CONSERVATIVE Party did not have to rely on just one of their MPs to express the Party’s position on the issue.
The Tories have ALWAYS supported CRASSrail.
As they are doing now, Friday 6 June 2008.
And as they have continued to do in the time between 19 July 2005 and 13 December 2007 when the Bill was in the House of Commons....Tom Harris is a liar to say that [the ‘Crossrail Bill when it] was first presented to the Commons in July 2005”.
But then what do you expect of a ‘Minister’ who has been appointed to front the Big Business agenda scam!
It is also possible that in addition to being a liar, Crossrail Harris is also incompetent.
But then he is in a Department that is ‘headed’ by Ruth Kelly for whom competence - as the concept is understood in ordinary, normal and objective sense and context - in Government Department has not been a prominent feature [if it has featured at all....!]..
Tom Harris has been told by KHOODEELAAR! on more than ten separate occasions in the past six months and very publicly that we shall have constitutional law claims against him in court.
Just in case he has not been able to read those very publicly [published] warnings, we say it again to him: DO NOT ANY MORE breach, violate, ignore or deny the UK’s constitutional law obligations over this.
If you do, as you have been doing, we shall refer your conduct as evidence and as ground for our application to have the legislative process practised declared invalid and unconstitutional and with that we shall seek to have the statute declared void and unconstitutional...........

CRASS talk by Tom Harris is grotesquely untrue!
It is not true to imply, which is what Tom Harris is doing [see the piece below], that Boris Johnson did not support Crossrail.
For unlike, say a single-MP ‘party’ as the case was with George Galloway in July 2005 when the ‘Crossrail Bill’ was processed at ‘Second Reading’ [19 July 2005], the CONSERVATIVE Party did not have to rely on just one of their MPs to express the Party’s position on the issue.
The Tories have ALWAYS supported CRASSrail.
As they are doing now, Friday 6 June 2008.
And as they have continued to do in the time between 19 July 2005 and 13 December 2007 when the Bill was in the House of Commons....Tom Harris is a liar to say that [the ‘Crossrail Bill when it] was first presented to the Commons in July 2005”.
But then what do you expect of a ‘Minister’ who has been appointed to front the Big Business agenda scam!
It is also possible that in addition to being a liar, Crossrail Harris is also incompetent.

It is not clear whether the same secret and pernicious elements that have been promoting 'Oona King' as a, No, as 'THE' saviour [!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!+n] of what they doubly mischievously call 'the Labour Party' [which is in all intents and purposes abolished and is impersonated for by the Blaired Party of which Brown is the current personification...] are behind Burnham's prancing...
Whatever may be the actual description of the immoral and the unethical forces that have been peddling these agents of wrongs, the first indications are that Andy Burnham is as shallow as his 'mate' and fellow careerist James Purnell... [Of Purnell, more, in later parts]

Allegedly. Because his being an ex-MP is not likely o take away from him the considerable access that he has to various lever of power that affect the lives and the rights of the people of and in Lon don...
One of those is the costs that the people will have to bear of staging the gigantic Olympics stunts of 2012.
How is the 2012 Olympic Games hosting linked with Boris Johnson and Crossrail?
Because they are. Also because Johnson is showing signs that he is not going to call a halt to the Big BUSINESS elements setting the AGENDA on London... That is why JOHNSON inserted in his latest comments about ‘alcohol ban’ an unnecessary reference to CRASSrail... In fact, it was both unnecessary and unjustified...
So Boris Johnson needs to get to grips with the actual costs and the other evidence of HOW Crossrail is a diversion, a waste and an obsolescence...

2012 Olympics – sporting dream or nightmare?

THE most terrifying visions of mayhem are not found on the horror channel but the in the nightmares of the men and women charged with delivering the London 2012 Olympics.
If the last drops of goodwill towards the Games evaporate in the coming months, as costs soar faster than any summer heatwave, Britain may be destined for a fiasco that will make Terminal 5 seem less traumatic than a tremor in a cup of espresso.
The British – and Londoners in particular – glory in wry cynicism and detached irony. As a nation we refuse to take the Eurovision Song Contest seriously, and even the Women’s Institute declines to give the Prime Minister a decent round of applause when he visits.
A country which venerates Victor Meldrew as a role model is not temperamentally suited to host an event which involves welcoming energetic young people from every corner of the globe for a gala of frenetic physical activity and fireworks. And nothing aggravates us British more than the suspicion we have been ripped off.
Such dark convictions are already stirring in Wales and the English provinces.
Plaid Cymru MP Adam Price made headlines last year when he claimed Wales was losing out on £437m.
This calculation centred on the prediction Wales would be denied Lottery funding worth £110m, coupled to the argument – based on the Barnett funding formula used to decide the share of UK spending that Wales receives – that the nation is entitled to £327m as a percentile of the Government’s investment in the Games.
The Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP said it would be a disgrace for some of the poorest regions of the UK to subsidise a London regeneration project.
His complaints gained credibility when then-London Mayor Ken Livingstone was accused of staging a “con trick”.
With not even a hint of sheepishness, he said: “It was, literally, absolutely – this has worked as I planned.”
He told the audience of a London hustings: “I bid for the Olympics because it’s the only way to get the billions of pounds out of the Government to develop the East End.”
The Review of Cultural Tourism in Wales, commissioned by the Assembly Government and launched this week, warns the industry to expect a drop in funding from “traditional sources” as a result of the Olympics.
In December the Assembly Heritage Minister Rhodri Glyn Thomas admitted the situation was bleak, telling a cross-party group of MPs: “The estimate I have heard is we could be losing up to £70m in Lottery funding, and certainly on behalf of the Government of Wales I would say that we would be very disappointed if there were a further raid on Lottery money...”
Cuts to the Arts Council of Wales have already triggered fears that venues such as the St Donats Arts Centre, home to a spectacular international storytelling festival, are now in doubt.
Scepticism may well fester into outright hostility when cutbacks lead to closures and then job losses in parts of the country far from the Olympics. Concern is already swirling around Britain, and such angst has four years in which to gather destructive momentum.
Such animosity could pit the regions against the capital, but there is just as great a chance that Londoners will not want to miss out on an opportunity to grumble – an activity refined over the centuries into both a national sport and an art form.
The city’s residents are already wondering how it has been possible for the budget for the aquatic centre to spiral from £73m to £242m.
Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell has said we should not claim that the cost of Games has rocketed from £2.3bn to £9.3bn. This second figure refers to the entire regeneration effort, she says.
Such comments will not convince critics who believe the original estimate was plucked out of the ether at a time when few thought Britain was a serious contender to host the greatest sports extravaganza yet conceived. But by linking the spectacular investment to regeneration and not to sporting she is effectively summoning ministers from Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast to demand a slice of this (very rich) cake.
Ms Jowell has much more to worry about than complaints from Celtic fringes. There is the concrete challenge of ensuring there is water in the swimming pool and seats in the stadiums by the time the Games comes round.
Britain may have once been an imperial nation but its project management skills have been in doubt for a decade.
Cost overrun and/or logistical collapse has defined architectural adventures such as the Millennium Dome, that wobbly bridge, the Scottish Parliament, the new Wembley Stadium and, of course, Terminal 5.
Can we do it? Bob the Builder, and now Boris the Mayor, will shout “Yes we can!”. But if the credit crunch further constricts family incomes and repossessions and unemployment start to spawn headlines, the question may quickly become: “Why are doing it?”
The long-term economic benefits of hosting an Olympic competition is a subject of debate among hard-headed economists. The pressure of deadlines can force up construction costs, and the sporting festival is the type of giant distraction from work that stamps on productivity.
But surely the sight of people with mightier muscles than the pistons on a steam engine will encourage the British public to cancel that night’s kebab and send us running to the local racetrack for a healthy sprint? Could there be a better tool than the Olympics to defuse our fabled obesity time-bomb?

Criticism has also come from luminaries of the political left, such as George Monbiot. He was appalled by a report from the Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions which claimed: “The Olympic Games have displaced more than two million people in the last 20 years, disproportionately affecting minorities such as the homeless, the poor, Roma and African-Americans...”
Are the Olympics just a tool of neo-oligarchs, a bread-and-circuses distraction which allows the wealthy to remake cities shorn of affordable housing?
Even without injecting such subversive ideas into the populace, it is likely that Londoners will bridle at any constraints on their freedom the contests will impose.
The threat of a terrorist outrage now looms over any major event, none more so than the Olympics, when the world’s attention is fixed on a single city. The challenge for security experts is to find a way of monitoring the multitude of risks without making London seem like a film set for a big-budget version of Orwell’s 1984.
Democratic protesters will also be devising ways to use the Games to blast international limelight on their causes. The chaotic journey of the Olympic torch around the world so far has demonstrated that even the most mildly disruptive act can end up being broadcast that night on global news channels.
Activists already scale the Houses of Parliament at every opportunity; now there will be an even greater choice of roofs from which to unfurl banners and shout slogans.
Yet it is the British public themselves who are the most unpredictable element in the Olympian equation.
Street magician David Blaine stood on a 22m pole in New York for 35 hours in 2002 and was surrounded by cheering well-wishers who saw him as an icon of human resilience.
The next year he came to London to sit in a glass box suspended by Tower Bridge and not eat for 44 days. People from across the country flocked to the spot to mock his vanity, fire paintballs and shout Chaucerian insults.
Britons do not like to be herded or instructed to respond to events with awe and appreciation. The country refused to thank Michael Heseltine and Peter Mandelson for the Millennium Dome they had each worked so hard to fund and fill.
However, as the Queen has discovered on significant birthdays and anniversaries, when the public believe they are choosing to take part in a moment of national celebration they are more than happy to take to the streets and wave flags with happy abandon,
It is critical that the vibrant, diverse and bubbling populace of the UK believe they have ownership of the Olympic Games and it is not the project of the political class and property developers. This can still happen, but the time of “con tricks” must come to an end.

One of those is the costs that the people will have to bear of staging the gigantic Olympics stunts of 2012.
How is the 2012 Olympic Games hosting linked with Boris Johnson and Crossrail?
Because they are. Also because Johnson is showing signs that he is not going to call a halt to the Big BUSINESS elements setting the AGENDA on London... That is why JOHNSON inserted in his latest comments about ‘alcohol ban’ an unnecessary reference to CRASSrail... In fact, it was both unnecessary and unjustified...
So Boris Johnson needs to get to grips with the actual costs and the other evidence of HOW Crossrail is a diversion, a waste and an obsolescence...

2012 Olympics – sporting dream or nightmare?

THE most terrifying visions of mayhem are not found on the horror channel but the in the nightmares of the men and women charged with delivering the London 2012 Olympics.
If the last drops of goodwill towards the Games evaporate in the coming months, as costs soar faster than any summer heatwave, Britain may be destined for a fiasco that will make Terminal 5 seem less traumatic than a tremor in a cup of espresso.
The British – and Londoners in particular – glory in wry cynicism and detached irony. As a nation we refuse to take the Eurovision Song Contest seriously, and even the Women’s Institute declines to give the Prime Minister a decent round of applause when he visits.
A country which venerates Victor Meldrew as a role model is not temperamentally suited to host an event which involves welcoming energetic young people from every corner of the globe for a gala of frenetic physical activity and fireworks. And nothing aggravates us British more than the suspicion we have been ripped off.
Such dark convictions are already stirring in Wales and the English provinces.
Plaid Cymru MP Adam Price made headlines last year when he claimed Wales was losing out on £437m.
This calculation centred on the prediction Wales would be denied Lottery funding worth £110m, coupled to the argument – based on the Barnett funding formula used to decide the share of UK spending that Wales receives – that the nation is entitled to £327m as a percentile of the Government’s investment in the Games.
The Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP said it would be a disgrace for some of the poorest regions of the UK to subsidise a London regeneration project.
His complaints gained credibility when then-London Mayor Ken Livingstone was accused of staging a “con trick”.
With not even a hint of sheepishness, he said: “It was, literally, absolutely – this has worked as I planned.”
He told the audience of a London hustings: “I bid for the Olympics because it’s the only way to get the billions of pounds out of the Government to develop the East End.”
The Review of Cultural Tourism in Wales, commissioned by the Assembly Government and launched this week, warns the industry to expect a drop in funding from “traditional sources” as a result of the Olympics.
In December the Assembly Heritage Minister Rhodri Glyn Thomas admitted the situation was bleak, telling a cross-party group of MPs: “The estimate I have heard is we could be losing up to £70m in Lottery funding, and certainly on behalf of the Government of Wales I would say that we would be very disappointed if there were a further raid on Lottery money...”
Cuts to the Arts Council of Wales have already triggered fears that venues such as the St Donats Arts Centre, home to a spectacular international storytelling festival, are now in doubt.
Scepticism may well fester into outright hostility when cutbacks lead to closures and then job losses in parts of the country far from the Olympics. Concern is already swirling around Britain, and such angst has four years in which to gather destructive momentum.
Such animosity could pit the regions against the capital, but there is just as great a chance that Londoners will not want to miss out on an opportunity to grumble – an activity refined over the centuries into both a national sport and an art form.
The city’s residents are already wondering how it has been possible for the budget for the aquatic centre to spiral from £73m to £242m.
Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell has said we should not claim that the cost of Games has rocketed from £2.3bn to £9.3bn. This second figure refers to the entire regeneration effort, she says.
Such comments will not convince critics who believe the original estimate was plucked out of the ether at a time when few thought Britain was a serious contender to host the greatest sports extravaganza yet conceived. But by linking the spectacular investment to regeneration and not to sporting she is effectively summoning ministers from Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast to demand a slice of this (very rich) cake.
Ms Jowell has much more to worry about than complaints from Celtic fringes. There is the concrete challenge of ensuring there is water in the swimming pool and seats in the stadiums by the time the Games comes round.
Britain may have once been an imperial nation but its project management skills have been in doubt for a decade.
Cost overrun and/or logistical collapse has defined architectural adventures such as the Millennium Dome, that wobbly bridge, the Scottish Parliament, the new Wembley Stadium and, of course, Terminal 5.
Can we do it? Bob the Builder, and now Boris the Mayor, will shout “Yes we can!”. But if the credit crunch further constricts family incomes and repossessions and unemployment start to spawn headlines, the question may quickly become: “Why are doing it?”
The long-term economic benefits of hosting an Olympic competition is a subject of debate among hard-headed economists. The pressure of deadlines can force up construction costs, and the sporting festival is the type of giant distraction from work that stamps on productivity.
But surely the sight of people with mightier muscles than the pistons on a steam engine will encourage the British public to cancel that night’s kebab and send us running to the local racetrack for a healthy sprint? Could there be a better tool than the Olympics to defuse our fabled obesity time-bomb?

By putting on the record the fact that the controlling [Tower Hamlets Council] clique is now doing the sort of lying and the sort of fabricating at the expense of the community in the Brick Lane, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green ‘south and north’ and Weavers and Stepney that it [the controlling clique] had been doing via its backing of the Big Business Crossrail hole agenda and in backing the Crossrail structural attacks on the community...
Those attacks are contained in the ‘hybrid’ ‘Crossrail Bill’ that is now being given routine approval by the stooged ‘Crossrail Bill Select committee’ in the UK House of ‘Lords’ [!!!!!]
That stooged select clm committee has refused to hear evidence of the CRASSness of the Crossrail hole plot that the objectors from the East End of London had and were anxious to put before the stooged select committee.

The latest attack on the community in the East End of London and on behalf of Big Business and Crossrail hole plot-like agenda, is in the claim, contained in the propaganda issued by the controlling clique on Tower Hamlets Council, to the effect that £8 Million worth of ‘planning gain’ has been ‘secured’ by the controlling clique.
The Clique refers to Brick Lane, Allen Gardens, Arnold Circus... but does not say what the alleged cash is going to be spent on .. or how Indeed with who
But the clique is fast on making the eye-catching slogan of £8 Million on its propaganda sheet....
This is another big business big lie via the local Council being used as touts to big business interests....

Exposing the Crossrail hole agenda-serving, Crossrail hole plot-inviting Tower Hamlets 'local' Council controlling clique.... and their colluding ‘opposition’ on the same Council....
